Water Boards

Water Boards are appointed to manage the rudimentary water systems in the various villages

In 2000 the government of Belize signed unto the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Goal 7 of the MDGs, ‘To ensure Environmental Sustainability’ has as one of its target (7C) to halve the population that doesn’t have access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015. Belize’s target was to ensure that 100% of its population have access to water and sanitation by 2015 which made us an MDG plus country. In 2015 there were 96% of the population having access to an improve water source.

Responsibilities Of The Water Boards:

All operations and maintenance of the system to ensure the uninterrupted supply of water within the village.

Regulating pumping hours

Undertaking expansion of the water system

Laying of pipes in the village

Collecting user fees

Carrying out disconnections

Keeping proper records of accounts

Any other functions related to the supply of water in the village
