The Labour Department is responsible for delivering labour administration services to all stakeholders through the development and implementation of national labour laws and policies, consistent with international standards, in order to promote industrial harmony.
To be a modern organization, committed to the socio-economic growth and development of Belize, within the global environment, providing quality labour administration services, in collaboration with our social partners and related agencies.
The Labour Department stands ready and willing to work with all stakeholders; including Trade Unions, Employers and international organizations, the International Labour Organization and the World Bank, on issues of local and global importance including child labour, decent work, poverty alleviation and a national employment policy.
The Government of Belize, has pledged to continue to promote tripartism and social dialogue in order to adhere to international labour laws and conventions – not only because the Government has a duty to do, but also because these laws and conventions are the driving force behind nationhood and development, social protection for all and a stable and thriving labour market and economy.
We are committed to ensure that the country produces and maintains a very skilled and productive labour force, who benefits from compliance and enforcement of our labour laws. Similarly, there is the commitment that policies and programmes will continue to be developed to ensure that trade unions and employers exercise their missions, rights and obligations in ways that further strengthen labour, foster collaboration, build consensus and goodwill and financial success.
The Public Labour Exchange is an internet based employment system which facilitates a “marriage” between employers and job seekers.
Employers are able to log onto the system and view information on job seekers while job seekers are able to conduct job search.
The Public Labour Exchange uses this information to create a match. The information extracted from this process will be used as a source of labour market information.
