Once achieved, it will be more easy to monitor and enforce labour legislation, while gathering and sharing credible statistics.
(i) To build and strengthen personal and institutional capacity through training by equipping employees with the skills and competencies needed to properly conduct inspections and report on their findings – using prescribed ILO training techniques and methodologies.
(ii)To promote decent work by monitoring and enforcing the Labour Act and other related legislation; working with the Child Labour Secretariat and Inspectorate Unit on the issue of child labour; working with the Work Permit Employee Committee to ensure that there is strict adherence conditions under which employment permits are approved and granted; and working with external agencies (including the Immigration Department, Ministry of Human Developent, Social Security Board and the International Organization for Migration) to address the issue of Human Trafficking and Force Labour.
(iii)To co-ordinate all information research, collation and exchange between local and international organizations – The Statistical Institute World Bank, etc. of Belize, ILO,CARICOM,
(iv)To liaise with the Heads of Local Government and Rural Development as support activities that can be provided to the department and their constituents inkeeping with decent work and any other related matters.
